Refreshed Touareg revealed

Mid-life facelift for Volkswagen Touareg luxury SUV, now priced from £43,000.

Volkswagen has released more details of the revised Touareg which opens for orders on August 27, ahead of first deliveries in November.

The new Toureg features more efficient engines, plus styling and spec revisions. Prices start at £43,000, rising to £47,500.

Two 3.0-litre V6 TDI engines (201bhp and 258bhp) are available – both more efficient than before and both theoretically capable of 40mpg+.

On the outside, the new Touareg boasts revised bumpers and grilles, new alloy wheel designs, extra colours and bi-xenon headlights as standard.

Inside, the front seats now come with standard lumbar support, and there are two new optional wood trims – ‘Sapelli Mahogany’ and ‘Engineered Ebony’ no less.

Three trim levels are available – the SE, Escape and R-Line. The R-Line features a body kit with bespoke bumpers front and rear, sill extensions and wheel arch extensions, 20-inch ‘Tarragona’ alloy wheels, lowered sports suspension and panoramic glass sunroof.

Inside there’s black roof lining, bespoke R-Line seats and aluminium-look pedals, while equipment includes a heated steering wheel, electrically operated tailgate and keyless entry and start.

Fact – apparently the Touareg was named after the principal inhabitants of the Saharan interior of North Africa.
