Britain’s backseat drivers reveal biggest moans

Driving too fast, playing music too loud and driving one-handed are the nation’s top backseat driving moans, according to new research.

The study from Direct Line pinpointed Birmingham as the nation’s backseat driving capital with 73% of Brummie drivers are plagued by complaints from passengers – 6% above the national average.

Liverpudlians are the most placid with nearly half of all motorists (47%) un-interrupted on the road.

• Burning petrol unnecessarily
• Not using your indicators

• Leaving sweet wrappers in the car

• Leaving drive thru wrappers in the car
• Eating whilst driving
• Not noticing potholes

The research also revealed that almost a fifth of UK parents (18%) admit that driving is one of the key topics of argument as children aged between 17 and 25 grow up, fly the nest and have their first taste of independence.

Direct Line is reassuring the ‘nagging-rents’ – coined by one of those surveyed – with the DrivePlus box, which monitors driving activity and measures driving safety based on factors including speed, smooth driving (acceleration/braking) and time of day.

If drivers score well enough on the DrivePlus box, they may qualify for a discount on their renewal at the end of the insurance policy’s term.
